migraine picture_112009Hypnotherapy As a Migraine Solution is the process of bringing yourself in a trance-like state – one that resembles sleep – through suggestions to the mind.  Much to the surprise of some, this technique has been used by some migraine sufferers to eliminate the pain.

How could self-hypnosis do the trick?

Self-hypnosis enables the individual to tap into their subconscious mind, know the root of the negative emotions and later release the pain linked to the emotion.  This emotion is what may be giving you stress that sets off the migraine.

How do I do it?

  1. Find a comfortable position, either sitting or lying down.
  2. Close your eyes.
  3. Take several deep breaths.
  4. Focus on each inhale and exhale.
  5. The concentrated breathing exercise will bring a much lighter and calmer state.
  6. Envision a ray of white light go into your body from the top of your head.
  7. Allow the light to run throughout your body.
  8. Imagine the light cleansing your entire body of all the amassed anxiety and pain.
  9. Visualize that light departing from your body from the soles of your feet, bringing with it all the stocked up negative energy and emotions.
  10. You should be experiencing an exceptionally relaxed state of mind.
  11. Direct your attention on the body part that is hurting.
  12. Imagine that this ache is a huge red ball.
  13. Resume your deep breathing.
  14. Picture that the red ball is slowly getting smaller as you breathe out.
  15. Feel the ache dissipate with the ball’s size.
  16. Keep on performing this exercise until the ball vanishes.
  17. Together with the ball, so will your pain also disappear or be more tolerable.

You may want to record these instructions on tape as the pain may interfere with your concentration.  Allow 2-3 minutes interval for each step.  Practice makes perfect.  Keep on trying until you get it.  Just because this is a natural migraine remedy means it will be easy.

For people who who like to learn more about self-hypnosis, they can download a free ebook from Oxford Hypnotherapy at http://www.hypnos.info/pages/freeselfhypnosis.html.

migraine picture_111609The tough reality is that migraine has no cure.  The best one can do is to learn to prevent or manage the pain.  Here, we’ll focus on new available drug treatments for you.

Topiramate

Topiramate is a drug used for epilepsy.  Now, it’s approved in various countries for migraine prevention.  Clinical trials indicate that the drug is well received by the patients and it can lessen migraines by 50%.  A dosage of 25mg is recommended and to be increased by 25mg increments per week as required.  At the 100mg dose, side effects manifested were fatigue, nausea, upper respiratory tract infections and diarrhoea.

Zonisamide

Zonisamide is a newer drug for epilepsy treatment and is aimed at migraine prevention.  It’s reported to decrease migraine by 50% in the patients.  In others, headaches were slashed by 25%.  Typical side effects were fatigue and anxiety.  However, the drug was generally tolerated by the study participants.

Botulinum Toxin

People getting the drug for cosmetic purposes noticed they had reduced headaches and migraines. Clinical studies showed that migraines had declined by one-third.

Occipital Nerve Block Injection

migraine picture_110609Migraine medications work differently on migraineurs (migraine sufferers).  What may remedy some, may actually be triggers for others.  Fortunately, another ray of hope may shine anew on migraineurs who’re in continuous search for a new migraine cureLevadex, an orally inhaled drug formulated to cure migraine, is being developed by Map Pharmaceuticals (MAP) and is currently at the concluding stage.  It contains a new formulation of dihydroergotamine (DHE), an intravenously administered drug used in clinical settings to treat migraines.

How Levadex Works

The individual can dispense Levadex themselves using MAP’s Tempo inhaler.  As the drug is inhaled, it gets quickly absorbed into the lungs and bloodstream.  The medication flows to the brain and nerves to end the pain, without producing serious side effects.  Levadex offered quick and continued migraine pain relief from as fast as 10 minutes and to last up to two days after dosing. The drug puts together the multiple benefits of action that permit DHE to prevent the onset of a migraine, control the pain, reduce the swelling and crush migraine at any point of the migraine cycle.  Studies showed considerable improvement in pain relief, nausea and sensitivity to light and sound.

Side Effects

The study indicated no serious unfavourable side effects in the trial.  The most common adverse consequences of the drug use were the medication aftertaste and nausea.  On the flipside, the most infrequent side effects were chest pain or chest discomfort.  Furthermore, the lungs showed no change in activity, as gauged by the spirometry (measurement of the air entering and exiting the lungs using a spirometer).

As the product is still at the testing stage, it may take some time before it becomes available in the market.  So to the millions of migraine sufferers, just a little more wait and this promising drug may just do wonders for you.  Don’t forget to consult your physician before trying this or any other drug.

toradolSpecialists give migraine  sufferers prescribed drugs to lessen the incidence or length of their headaches, and some to prevent the pain when they believe a headache coming on.  Now and again, though, the pain is impervious and heavy-duty pain prescribed drugs are indispensable.

Non-prescription NSAIDs, non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, help a lot of people reduce their migraine pain, but when they are not adequate in amount, professionals may suggest a prescription version.  Toradol (ketorolac) is a prescription-strength NSAID experts can hand out to migraine  sufferers with moderate to severe pain that is not reacting to other pain relievers.  It is obtainable in a tablet form, but is typically dispensed in emergency rooms and injected for migraines

Toradol has several potentially injurious side effects patients should to be informed of and must be utilized  with prudence.  It can cause queasiness, tiredness, faintness, itching, diarrhea, fluid retention, and perforation or bleeding of the gastrointestinal tract.

It should not be taken by migraine  sufferers who are allergic to other NSAIDs or aspirin.  Patients with a prior incident of gastrointestinal bleeding, high blood pressure, or a history of kidney and liver conditions should stay away from ketorolac.  It should be avoided by pregnant women and the elderly as well.

Patients who have been unproductively seeking to remedy their migraine at home with over the counter NSAIDs need to let their physician or emergency room personnel know.  Ketorolac should not be doled out until other NSAIDs have cleared the body to thwart potential overdose-related obstacles.

Due to potentially dangerous drug interactions, patients need to let their physicians know about all their drugs, not just ones taken for migraines.  Toradol should not be meted out to anyone currently taking blood thinners, tranquilizers, diuretics, lithium, and identifiable types of antidepressants, methotrexate, or ACE inhibitors for blood pressure.

Toradol may supply relief when no relief from the pain can be felt, but should be taken with tremendous carefulness.

Neuro stimOne out of every eight people experiences migraine headaches. There is at present no cure on hand to eliminate the condition; specialists only help patients cope with the indications.  A new cure is being investigated that may supply further pain relief than any other means to date for migraine sufferers.

In September 2006, reviews began surfacing about a surgical procedure that may aid migraineurs.  Dr. Sandeep Amin, an anesthesiologist at Rush University Medical Centre in Chicago, Illinois, is breaking new ground with a radical new cure.

Dr. Amin is examining the potential of a remedy he calls “occipital nerve stimulation”.  The treatment calls for the embedding of a minute neurostimulator in the neck.  This device gives off electrical impulses to nerves underneath the skin at the base of the head at the back of the neck.

The device being employed by Dr. Amin nationwide is the Boston Scientific Precision neurostimulator.  The Precision neurostimulator is the littlest rechargeable, implantable neurostimulator on the market (as of 2006) and is already FDA-approved for spinal stimulation for returning pain therapy.

If the research is successful, it supplies new hope to migraineurs, mostly those who have found their pain opposing presently accessible remedy modalities.

Dr. Amin’s examination is not the first.  In 2004, Medtronic, Inc., a medical technology company, performed  an examination of occipital nerve stimulation for migraines using one of their own devices.  The examination was started after a Dallas doctor successfully used the untried cure to mitigate pain for a migraineur.   An evaluation of the company’s website, www.medtronic.com, exposed no information on the investigation, making it plausible that, for whatever grounds, the 2004 study was unsuccessful.

Dr. Amin says that his cure is not for everyone, and, if it is successful, suggests it only for patients who have been unable to obtain Migraine pain relief by way of prescription or other, more common remedy methods.

family migraineWhat do you know about migraines?
Though it is supposed to be a recurring sort of the head ache, medical researches shows that it has a genetic origin. To be exact it is neurological disorder.

Everybody knows that migraines can spoil the best sunniest day of the person’s life because it strikes with that terrible pain. By itself a migraine is the severe form of headache that afflicts a plenty of people with no restrictions between a  grown-up or a child.

If  a usual headache caused by ‘for example’ by catching a cold can be easily alleviated by mild medicines and some slight treatment, a migraine as  medical research reveals is chronic and a progressive disease. It can be relieved by painkillers but unfortunately is not curable. A great quantity of medical researchers are thinking about the origin of  a migraine and what is most important, trying to find an effective cure for migraines it in order to battle this massive disease.

Nowadays researchers are working on a new migraine –specific medicine.
An international study, written in one of the medical magazines has found new very effective drug which provides relief to those people who are suffering from migraines. The good news is that this drug has just a few side effects. It lessens the probability of such side effects as insomnia, dizziness, hot flushes, dry mouth and others. It seems to be great news to poor migraine sufferers. But the question about the causes of migraine is still open.

In spite of wide spread belief and the advice of so called specialists there is no natural treatments that can cure the pain caused by migraine.

Taking into consideration this fact it can be inherited. Everyday stress, an unhealthy way of life or some kinds of psychological problems can also be the cause of migraines. As the statistic shows women are more likely  to suffer from migraine. Especially it concerns with women of middle age who are in the period of menopause. But it isn’t the rule.

A migraine can entirely spoil your life but hope does exists. You should pay close attention to your health and your general physical and psychological condition and if your migraine is inherited you should find for yourself the most suitable medicine with as few side effects as possible.

Ask your relatives what has worked for them in curing a migraine

Accupuncture A natural migraine headache treatmentsAcupuncture is one of the deep-rooted medical techniques in the world, observed in China for over 2,000 years.  It is an FDA-approved curing modality for a number of illnesses, especially pain management and chronic pain, and is particularly valuable in remedying migraines.

Acupuncture is a Traditional Chinese Medicine treatment that involves rousing some of the over 800 vital energy points in the human body with fragile, hair-thin needles to release chi and stimulate the body to heal itself.  The most important energy points are on the meridians that run through the body from head to toe.

Chi (pronounced chee), or life energy, streams through these meridians and energy points.
The blockage of the flow of chi leads to weakness and is considered the basis of many bodily aches and pains.  The flow of chi along the meridians can be blocked by illness, bad diet, the weather, and other outside factors.

Acupunture practitioners and patients work together to drum up a healing plan to remedy the obstructions and what causes them.  These treatment plans, like those of Western Medicine, often comprise diet and lifestyle changes to enhance the patients’ well-being.

Migraineurs (people who suffer from migraine headaches) need to mention to their acupuncturist exactly where they are throbbing when seeing one for pain management.  The position of pain is important due to the extensive number of acupuncture points in the head, face, and neck.  Where to apply pressure depends on where the migraine pain is most serious. Migraineurs can find long-standing reprieve from their migraines by working with an acupuncturist who focuses in headaches.

These specialists do an individualized review of the patient to create a long-term treatment plan.  Many people who undergo an acupuncture program like this experience freedom from migraines for years afterward.  For some the headaches cease completely.

mainimage-chakraseatedThe word chakra is Sanskrit for wheel.

The chakras are the seven fundamental delivery points for the energy in the body that stream from the base of the spine to the crown of the head.  They are also called the psychic centers of consciousness.

Migraines may be a by-product of an encumbered chakra or unbalanced chakras.  Migraine can be remedied, and possibly healed, without the aid of the prescription drugs by clearing and balancing the migraineurs chakras.

Each chakra is the energy vital point for a different part of the body or body system and shapes the energy flow of both physical energy and emotions.  The two chakras most affected with migraines are, naturally, in the head.

Ajna, Sanskrit for command, is the sixth of the seven  basic chakras.  It is also known as the brow chakra or the third eye.  It is in the center of the forehead between the eyes.  This chakra is related to psychic ability as well as the more mundane pineal and pituitary glands. Experiencing migraines is indicative of an obstructed Anja. When balanced, the Ajna chakra is a deep indigo color.

Sahasrara, or the thousand-petalled lotus, is the seventh of the primary chakras.  It is also known as the crown chakra since this chakra is on top of the head and involves the entire crown area. This chakra works with the root to steady the energy throughout the body. Stress, fatigue, sleep problems and migraines are all tied with an unbalanced crown chakra. When balanced, the Sahasrara is violet.

Meditation, visualization, and colour therapy are all outstanding ways to balance the chakras of the head.  Many people find crystals and semiprecious stones beneficial in focusing and balancing their chakras.  Check your local library for more literature about treatment through chakra balance.
